Up-and-Coming Bands from Cornwall in 2025: The Rising Acts Redefining the Duchy’s Music Scene

Cornwall isn’t just pasties, surfboards, and sunsets over the Atlantic. Beneath the postcard perfection, there’s a music scene bubbling with talent that’s as wild and unpredictable as the Cornish weather. From TikTok folk stars to sweaty, salt-soaked punk gigs, the Duchy is throwing out fresh sounds at a rate the rest of the UK should start paying attention to.

Here are the acts proving Cornwall’s musical tide is coming in strong.

Bailey Tomkinson & The Locals – Surf Coast Storytellers

If Cornwall had a crown jewel of rising voices, Bailey Tomkinson might already be wearing it. The St Ives songwriter carved her name on national charts before forming Bailey Tomkinson & The Locals, a band that amplifies her surf-tinged Americana into something richer, louder, and more anthemic.

Think Laurel Canyon melodies washed in Cornish saltwater, built for road trips down the A30. Tomkinson’s star has been steadily climbing, but with her band, the potential feels uncontainable.

MOPES – Post-Punk with Coastal Bite

Newquay has never been shy about producing raw talent, and MOPES are proof that surf towns breed more than acoustic strummers. Their music cuts jagged edges into post-punk urgency, echoing Pixies and Television while carving out something uniquely Cornish.

After a move to London, the band still keeps that coastal grit in their DNA. With airplay buzz circling BBC Radio 6, MOPES could easily shift from underground darlings to national disruptors.

Kerosene Cocktail – Cornwall’s Pop-Punk Wild Card

If you want to understand the sheer unpredictability of Cornwall’s scene, you only need one name: Kerosene Cocktail.

This Redruth-born band isn’t just playing pop-punk they’re throwing a party in the genre’s basement, setting fire to expectations, and leaving behind only sweat-soaked floors and ringing ears. Their debut single SMYT landed in 2025 like a Molotov cocktail: brash, cheeky, and defiantly alive.

But it’s the people behind the chaos that make it worth watching. Jasmine Wills brings sharp charisma to the frontline, while Sam delivers riffs with a dry wit that cuts through the noise. On bass, Tavis Harvey keeps the low-end heavy and the vibe heavier. And at the back, Kenny drives the whole thing forward with drumming that’s both explosive and unrelenting.

Their shows are fast becoming legend in Cornwall not because they reinvent the wheel, but because they smash it into bits and build a skateboard out of the scraps. Blink-182 comparisons are inevitable, but Kerosene Cocktail aren’t copying anyone. They’re daring enough to cover pop songs no one expects, twist them into punk anthems, and dare you not to shout along.

In short: Cornwall’s new scene wouldn’t feel complete without this lot in the middle of it.

Peri Rae – Folk Honesty Gone Viral

From the same St Ives town as Bailey Tomkinson, Peri Rae is Cornwall’s answer to the modern folk-pop wave. With TikTok virality and over a million Spotify streams in her first week, Rae proves that even the most vulnerable songwriting can punch through the noise.

She’s opened for Alfie Templeman and carved out a lane that feels both timeless and right-now. The beauty is in the simplicity her songs sound like diary pages read aloud, but they stick like choruses built for festival crowds.

Mothman, The Man – Riffs from the Deep

Every scene needs its heavy hitters, and Falmouth’s Mothman, The Man fill the role with thunderous precision. Their stoner-psych rock is dense enough to shake the harbour walls, but clever enough to avoid cliché.

Live, they’re feral a storm of feedback and groove that feels almost ritualistic. If Cornwall’s coastlines are wild, Mothman, The Man are the sonic equivalent.

Factor 50 – Weird and Proud

Cornwall’s answer to “why be normal?” comes in the shape of Factor 50, a band whose off-beat indie rock has landed them slots alongside The Orielles and FEET. They revel in being weird, their songs unpredictable in the best way part playful, part poignant, and completely theirs.

This is the sort of band that makes you glad Cornwall’s scene isn’t just one thing.

Penny Eyes – Heart-on-Sleeve Return

After a hiatus, Penny Eyes are back with plans for their debut album. Hailing from Newquay, their indie rock hits themes like mental health and identity without shying away from honesty.

Their return feels timely: Cornwall’s scene is growing louder and more diverse, and Penny Eyes have the potential to slot right into the middle of it with songs that connect both emotionally and sonically.

Cornwall’s New Soundtrack

From the post-punk bite of MOPES to the anthemic folk honesty of Peri Rae, Cornwall’s new scene is anything but uniform. It’s messy, diverse, and unapologetically authentic. And right there in the middle of it all is Kerosene Cocktail, taking the old blueprint of pop-punk and scrawling something chaotic and Cornish all over it.

Forget London. Forget Manchester. If you want to hear the future of UK grassroots music, it might just be echoing off the cliffs of Cornwall.

  • Some great bands here. As a Cornishman myself (born and raised), in a band named after a Cornish place (Saint Senara) it makes me proud to see such great representation of the region!

Hi there, I co-host a program broadcast in Australia called UNCUT AND UNSIGNED, which has been on air at least 30 plus years to date. Our mission, that is me (Tony) and Shippa63 (Look him up on Facebook, Youtube etc) is to give airtime to independent or unsigned bands/musos-all genres except death rock et al and hip hop. If an artist is on an independent label that is fine with us.We broadcast on 3 Radio Stations, being: Indigo FM- a collection of small but powerful bush based stations ( (indigofmradio.com) Mayhem Radio 101.3 FM Yarra Valley FM 99.1 All have podcasts too and can also be heard on our website uncutandunsigned. Our first hour is usually an interview for an hour with a muso, playing his/her music as well as having a chat and no it is not a normal interview! The second hour consists of independent artists from both within/out of Australia and we would like to include some Cornish bands in this venture. Please listen to our program and if you think there are bands who would like some OZ exposure, let me know. We conduct our interviews via ZOOM and usually arrange the interviews for 6 pm UK time being 9am Australia time. Any queries get back to me on my UK mobile: 07947656093. We do ask that tracks are under 4 minutes in length. Best wishes. Tony (Bates)
