Allele, the Jacksonville, Florida veterans, prove that nearly two decades into their career, they are still a force in the hard rock landscape with their latest single.
Echo Scale™: ★★★★☆ 4.8)
Allele, formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2002 by vocalist Wally Wood, has a significant history in the hard rock and alternative scene. They quickly garnered attention, selling out shows around Florida and touring with major acts like Shinedown, Nonpoint, and Sevendust as early as 2005. With two albums already under their belt and scoring success with placements in Cobra Kai and SmackDown vs Raw , the five-piece currently featuring Wally Wood (Vocals), Joey Rodriguez (Guitar), Billy Grey (Guitar), Tyler Hensley (Bass), and Dusty Winterrowd (Drums) is back in 2025 with the EP single, “Red Heart Love”.
This track promises material that is “more current, brutal and has more hooks than ever before”. On listening, we can confirm this track is an alternative rock anthem, immediately. It feels as at home in your local metal venue as it would be at Download Festival, channelling the likes of Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and other colossuses in the alternative scene.
The Soul of the Song: Wally Wood’s Vocals
The absolute highlight of “Red Heart Love” is those vocals. Wally Wood’s delivery manages to catch you right in the feelings, displaying intensity for days and, quite frankly, technical excellence as well. This is a lyricist with a real ear for melody, and that chorus will be stuck in your head for days, guaranteed. Lyrically, we are talking real excellence here as well, exploring the song’s themes with the emotional soul-seeking it deserves.
Riff-Ready and Rhythm-Strong
The guitar work, handled by Joey Rodriguez and Billy Grey, is another really strong point for this song. The foundation is riffy, rhythmic, and groovy, while simultaneously heavy and striking, all delivered with just the right level of gain, making it tonally superb.
While a seasoned guitarist will appreciate the rhythmic skill on display, the guitars aren’t doing anything to set the world on fire. Instead, they provide well-placed, tasteful riffing and heavy-hitting chord progressions that perfectly serve the song’s melodic strengths.
Driving the Beat: Percussive Excellence
Let’s look at the drums. Dusty Winterrowd provides an excellent performance. The percussive choices are genuinely excellent, displaying really tasteful, lofty, and stadium-ready execution. They raise the chorus and drive the verses; they are a real display of tasteful drumming.
If we had to offer one critique, the kick drum sounds flat and a bit sloppy for our tastes. However, the overall performance lifts the entire track.
The Power of Production
The production is a great job all around. The mix is dead on, the vibe is just right, and crucially, the production gives us the ambience which makes this song sound quite as big as it does. Really, there’s not much to criticise, spare the flaccid kick drum sound mentioned above. It’s a massive sounding track built for live performance.
Echo Rebel Conclusion
“Red Heart Love” is a powerful statement. Allele is not relying on past success; they are actively driving their sound forward. The track succeeds on the strength of its massive, singalong chorus and emotionally resonant vocals, backed by rock-solid, expert musicianship. While the elements aren’t reinventing the wheel, they are assembled with such skill and clarity that the track becomes an undeniable, high-calibre alternative rock hit. This is a guaranteed playlist addition for fans of melodic, heavy rock and a perfect introduction to a band that never stopped swinging.
