Echo Scale™: ★★★★ (4/5)
Daz Lynch, the Leicester-based singer-songwriter, is back with his vibrant second single, ‘Give A Little Love’, a collaborative effort featuring the talents of John Barrow on saxophone and John O’Reilly on bass. This track serves as an exciting preview of his forthcoming debut album, ‘Ride The Wave’, and if this taster is anything to go by, we’re in for a truly enjoyable, feel-good journey.
An Unapologetically Good Time
Right from the opening notes, ‘Give A Little Love’ envelops you in an upbeat rhythm and an infectious feel. This is undeniably the kind of track that conjures images of “windows down, radio up,” cruising along a sunny coastal road in mid-July. While it might not be treading entirely new ground in the indie-rock landscape, it absolutely doesn’t need to. The song excels in its masterful execution, delivering a perfectly structured and paced dose of pure rock ‘n’ roll joy. The synergy between Lynch, Barrow, and O’Reilly is palpable; it’s clear these are artists who not only understand each other deeply but, more importantly, grasp the fundamental ingredients for crafting a genuinely fun rock song. You can almost hear the echoes of Oasis throughout, particularly in the vocals and the track’s confident, laid-back swagger.
Vocals That Hook You In
Let’s address the vocals. While Daz’s vocal tone might be a matter of personal preference for some, it’s undeniably the perfect fit for the spirit and energy of ‘Give A Little Love’. The vocal line itself is catchy as all get-out, meticulously written, and packed with engaging, lighthearted lyrics. And the production? Absolutely stellar! The layered vocals are a particular highlight, blending seamlessly to forge a massive, anthem-worthy sound. This attention to detail in both songwriting and production is a significant win, lending the track a powerful, stadium-ready presence.
The Powerhouse Rhythm Section & Subtle Touches
The rhythm section on this song is nothing short of exemplary. John O’Reilly’s bass and the drums are exceptionally tight, dynamic, and reveal a clear, strong link with Daz’s vision. John’s bass tone is a thing of beauty – mellow and rich, yet possessing enough punch to expertly drive the song’s rhythm. And as for the drummer? While there might have been room for a touch more flair, they are undeniably deep, deep in the pocket with your keys and your wallet; it’s genuinely hard to find fault with such precision! The guitar does everything it needs to to tell the story without trying to be the star of the show. Meticulous attention to detail when it comes to the guitar work as well. It would have been an easy way out to make this song rockier with big distorted guitars but they’ve opted for more subtlety and that is something I really appreciate. (Honestly, it’s so tasteful, the guitar might be wearing a tiny tuxedo.)
Equally commendable is John Barrow’s saxophone contribution. Far from vying for star status, his playing flawlessly serves the song, clearly demonstrating he understood the assignment perfectly. It becomes overwhelmingly clear that ‘Give A Little Love’ is the product of ego-free, seasoned professionals who possess a shared history and understanding of writing music together.
