Debut album: Tales from a Travelling Circus (May 2025)
Who are Kosta D?
Kosta D is an indie band based in West Sussex, formed after songwriter Kosta D took his solo project full-band. With classic British influences like The Kinks and Arctic Monkeys, they’ve put themselves on the local gig circuit, even landing four slots at Camden’s legendary Dublin Castle.
What do they sound like?
Kosta D’s music sits firmly in the British indie tradition: jangly guitars, story-driven lyrics, and a straightforward approach that doesn’t try to be anything it’s not. There’s a clear love for the golden age of indie, and moments where the intent comes through—sometimes in the lyric writing, sometimes in the scrappy live energy.
Why isn’t this a full review?
We’re musicians first, and we don’t run full reviews for music that isn’t ready. With Kosta D, the main issues are timing and delivery. Guitar parts often don’t lock in together, and the vocals struggle to carry the melodies. These problems go beyond “raw charm” and cross into fundamental territory—if the basics aren’t tight, the listener tunes out.
There’s nothing wrong with being a work in progress, but at this stage, Kosta D feels more rehearsal room than main stage. The ideas are there; the execution isn’t. Until those core skills catch up, it wouldn’t be fair (to the band or our readers) to pretend otherwise.
Echo Rebels Final Word
From one set of working musicians to another: keep at it. Everyone starts somewhere, and playing iconic venues like the Dublin Castle is an achievement in itself. But if you want to stand out—even on the local scene—you’ve got to nail the fundamentals: timing, tightness, and confident delivery. That’s the minimum bar for getting heard.
When the band’s performances tighten up, we’d be happy to take another listen.
